This versatile breed from Norway has ancient origins that date back to the time of the Vikings. Primarily a hunting dog of great stamina and intelligence, the Elkhound joined man in the hunt for large game. Now, the Elkhound enjoys the warm hearth or the pleasant jogs in the park as he accompanies his master in the modern world. A dog of medium stature, with a beautiful grey coat, and full of energy. Bold and independent, with a confident expression, he is what his past demanded him to be. The Elkhound is also very friendly and affectionate, playful, reliable with children, and cherishes to be around people and the family. All these qualities and more make him an amazing breed that has had a great relationship with man in the past and continues to do so in the present.
